Phillip Pike

My name is Philip Pike, a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Builder. I am the founding Director of Contracting Solutions. I have over 20 years of professional experience. I was admitted to the Chartered Institute of Building in 1990 (MCIOB). One of the reasons for this qualification was to demonstrate a broader knowledge of the management of the construction process than was implied by the RICS qualification. Why quantity surveying? Well, the careers’ people tried our school out on psychometric tests, and mine came out as an office job in a field. I thought don’t be daft, but it turned out to be quite a good description really. I like the built environment and was good at converting two dimensions into three in my head. After twenty years working for other organisations, I felt it was going to be rewarding to set up my own practice and see where this would take me.

I live on the Isle of Wight although my carrier has also taken me from Plymouth to the Isle of Skye via Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, London (West, North and East), Liverpool, and Newcastle, but not in that order. I have worked on historical buildings, houses, industrial units and process plants, roads, jetties, utilities and railway projects. On contracts with full bills of quantities, cost reimbursable, major frameworks, partnering, and one PFI contract that which has been completed successfully. Projects have ranged in value from £50k to £120M.My last two employers were AMEC PLC and Morrison; both as Commercial managers. My role was to provide a professional service on nearly £40M a year turnover.
